What are BBL & Moxi by Sciton?

Sciton is an industry leader in laser and light technology and we are thrilled to offer their BBL and Moxi treatments!

BBL (Broad Band Light) is a revolutionary technology that targets specific skin cells to address areas of concern and reveal younger-looking skin. With a wide range of settings and filters, BBL can be used to treat a variety of different conditions including hyperpigmentation, fine lines, rosacea, acne, elasticity, and uneven skin tone, while simultaneously using heat to generate new collagen.

Moxi is a non-ablative fractional laser that offers a gentle approach to radiant skin for any skin type, year-round. The treatment corrects the initial signs of sun damage and aging, evens out tone, smooths textural irregularities, tames melasma, and leaves skin looking brighter and more polished. And all this with minimal downtime!

Individually, BBL and Moxi effectively tackle certain concerns. Combined, they’re a powerful duo working synergistically at different levels of the skin to deliver results that wow.

Why we love BBL and Moxi

The main reason we love BBL and Moxi comes down to one word – Results. Patients treated with BBL and Moxi have seen transformational improvement and some say they truly love their skin for the first time.

A well-known Stanford University research study shows that “BBL treatment can restore gene expression pattern of photoaged and intrinsically aged human skin to resemble young skin”, meaning BBL can reverse skin damage and the signs of aging at a molecular level.

Meanwhile, as a prejuvenation treatment, Moxi stops the signs of aging in their tracks. It offers visible results for younger patients looking for a light touch up or for those wanting to take their BBL treatment to the next level without significant downtime. And it’s appropriate for all skin types.

Combination BBL + Moxi treatments are the ultimate in skin tone and texture correction.

      Why Radiance Rx

We invested in BBL and Moxi by Sciton because we want our patients to step out into the world with confidence, knowing their skin is glowing. Other laser and light therapies can provide some improvement to skin texture and tone, but we believe our patients deserve the best, and that’s what this technology delivers.

      What to Expect

The first step for all BBL and/or Moxi patients is a consultation with one of our clinicians which helps determine the best treatment plan based on factors such as your skin, lifestyle and goals. During the consultation, you’ll discuss which procedure is most appropriate (BBL, Moxi or a combination treatment), expected results from a single treatment vs a series, pre and post procedure instructions, etc.

On the day of your treatment, arrive with a clean, make-up free face. For BBL, you’ll go straight into your treatment. If you are getting Moxi on its own or as an add-on to BLL, numbing cream will be applied prior to the Moxi procedure.  Radiance Rx is a premier BBL and Moxi treatment facility near Raleigh Durham.  We have BBL and Moxi experience and will make sure your appointment is fast, efficient, and having you looking the way you want. We're located at 2046 Creekside Landing Dr, Apex, NC 27502.  Contact Radiance Rx today to schedule your Broad Band Light and Moxi treatment.

During the treatment, you will likely feel a warm or rubber band snap sensation as energy is delivered. Your eyes will be protected with safety shields or glasses, but with the BBL you’ll still see bright flashes. Patients typically tolerate the treatment well and we have Pro-Nox available for added comfort as needed.

After treatment, you may feel a warm sensation similar to a light sunburn in the treated area. You may also experience some swelling, dryness and itching. And you should expect to see small dark spots appear as treated tissue works its way out of your body and new fresh skin is regenerated! These are all normal responses, and the key is to be gentle with your skin during this time. That includes washing gently, using sunscreen methodically, moisturizing liberally, avoiding sun exposure, and making sure not to scrub, rub or pick at your healing skin.

You’ll see results as your skin heals, typically within 7-10 days for the face and within 2-3 weeks for the chest and/or body. Optimal results require a series of corrective treatments followed by maintenance sessions.

      FAQs

      • Who is a good candidate for BBL and/or Moxi?

BBL and/or Moxi can provide benefit for anyone seeking to improve pigmentation, texture and tone. While BBL may not be the suitable for patients with darker skin tones and for those with melasma, Moxi can be safely used for those patients as well.

If you tend to pick at your skin, consider other options as picking skin during the healing process can lead to scarring and/or discoloration.

      • Do BBL and/or Moxi hurt?

BBL treatments are generally well tolerated by patients, although some discomfort is not uncommon.

Moxi treatments tend to be a bit “spicy”, especially when following a BBL treatment. For that reason, we use a topical analgesic to numb the treatment area and ensure comfort.

For both procedures, a Zimmer chiller to cool the area can be used, and Pro-Nox is available for added comfort if needed. Pro-Nox is a combination of oxygen and nitrous oxide that is inhaled to provide fast-acting pain relief and calm anxiety.

      • When will I see results?

You’ll see results as your skin heals, typically within 7-10 days for the face and within 2-3 weeks for the chest and/or body. Optimal results require a series of corrective treatments followed by maintenance sessions, but even one session will provide clearer, brighter and healthier looking skin.

      • What’s the downtime for BBL and/or Moxi treatments?

Your provider will give you instructions on things to avoid after treatment, such as sun exposure, intense exercise, etc. However, you’ll be able to resume most daily activities immediately following treatment.

During the healing process, you may experience some swelling, dryness and flaking. And you’ll notice small dark spots appear as treated tissue works its way out of your body. Some people try to avoid social outings during this time, while others don’t adjust their plans. This is a person choice, but we do not recommend having these procedures done within 2 weeks of a special event such as wedding or reunion.

      • How often should I get BBL and/or Moxi treatments?

During your consultation, your provider will recommend an optimal treatment course based on your skin, lifestyle and goals. Typically, a series of 3-4 treatments to correct existing damage followed by maintenance sessions to keep up the results is best. However, even one session will provide clearer, brighter and healthier looking skin.

      • Can I wear makeup after my treatment?

Ideally, you’ll keep skin clean, sun-protected, moisturized and make-up free throughout the healing process. If needed, makeup can be applied using clear or new brushes/sponges 24 hours after treatment.

      • What should I do to prepare for my BBL and/or Moxi treatment?

During your consultation, your provider will give you instructions on how to prepare for your treatment. These may include directions to avoid sun exposure for a period of time before the procedure, to pause the use of certain topical products (including self-tanner), to plan for limited sun exposure after treatment, etc. Be sure to tell your clinician about all your medications and medical conditions, about all topicals you use, and about any permanent makeup treatments you’ve received.
