      Neuromodulators

Smooth Away Wrinkles and Fine Lines

      What are Neuromodulators?

Repeated muscle movement can cause fine lines and wrinkles. Neuromodulators such as Botox, Dysport or Jeuveau (a.k.a. - neurotoxins and wrinkle reducers) temporarily block the ability of muscles to contract. When muscles relax, the result is a softer, smoother, more youthful appearance. The treatment can also prevent new lines from forming.

      What they treat

With a long history in medical aesthetics, neuromodulators have found a place in the treatment of many areas. Some of the most common uses are for:

      • Crow's feet
      • Frontalis (forehead lines)
      • Glabella/frown lines (the 11s)
      • Perioral lines (smoker's lines)
      • Mentalis (dimpled chin)
      • Bunny lines (the fine lines on either side of the nose)
      • Depressor Anguli Oris (to treat downturn at the edges of the mouth)

      Why we love them

Neurotoxins have been used safely in cosmetic applications for decades, both for treatment and for prevention. They're versatile and highly effective, giving skin a renewed, smoothed-out appearance that looks natural. Patients see noticeable results within a week and with virtually no downtime.

      Why Radiance Rx

With many applications for wrinkle reducers, it takes an expert understanding of facial anatomy, an artistic eye, and experience to get the best result, and that's exactly what our providers bring to the table. Each of our injectors has undergone extensive training in neuromodulators and they're passionate about staying current on the new techniques and advancements.

      What to Expect

Depending on your unique situation and goals, your injector will help you decide between Botox, Dysport or Jeuveau and will then use their experience and training to determine the best placement for injections, proper dosing, etc.

Your skin will be cleansed and prepared, and then the injections will begin. Most treatments require numerous injection points, but the small needle used causes minimal discomfort. The procedure itself typically lasts 15 minutes or less.

With little downtime, you can resume most daily activities immediately after your appointment. Lines will start to soften within a week and you'll see the full effect of your treatment within 2 weeks. Treatment every 3 - 4 months is recommended for optimal results.

      FAQs

      • Who's a good candidate for neurotoxins?

Because wrinkle reducers are safe, effective for many areas, and great at preventing as well as treating signs of aging, they are recommended for most of our patients seeking anti-aging options.

Ideal candidates for neurotoxins are those that have realistic expectations, are in good overall health, and are committed to receiving repeat treatments to maintain results. Patients who are very physically active and have a high metabolism (e.g.– avid runners) will see results but their treatments may not last as long because their bodies tend to break down neuromodulators faster.

Neuromodulators are not recommended for those who affected by a neuromuscular disorder, ative infection or an autoimmune disorder. Avoid neuromodulators if you are pregnant or nursing, have a history of keloid scarring, or have been diagnosed with ptosis (droopy eyelids).

Come in for a consultation with one of our injectors to determine if neuromodulators make sense for you. Call us at 919-303-4777 or request a consultation online.

      • What should I do to prepare for my treatment?

Do not have dental work done within 2 weeks of your procedure. Avoid alcohol for 3 days prior to your treatment to help reduce bruising. If possible, avoid blood thinners, aspirin and NSAIDs (e.g. - Advil, Motrin, Aleve), vitamin E and fish oils for one week before, consulting with your physician before altering any prescription regimen.

Arnica or bromelain supplements can be used 2-3 days prior to your procedure to reduce the likelihood of bruising and swelling.

      • What should I do and expect post-treatment?

After your treatment, do not lie down for at least 4 hours and do not massage or apply pressure to the areas treated for at least 12 hours. Avoid vigorous exercise, hot tubs, saunas or other high-heat situations for 24 hours, along with flights. Do not have dental work done for 2 weeks post-procedure.

If you experience a headache within a day or two following your treatment, you may take OTC pain relievers. Headaches are a frequent but normal side effect. Although uncommon, potential complications include but are not limited to: allergic reaction, eyelid swelling, unintentional eyelid droop (ptosis), facial asymmetry, and/or oral incompetence. These are not permanent.

We care deeply about our patients and their satisfaction. Scheduling a timely follow up 2 weeks after this procedure is important as it allows us to assess results and ensure the best aesthetic outcome.

      • What's the downtime for neurotoxin treatments?

You can resume most daily activities immediately after your appointment, keeping in mind the post-treatment guidelines outlined above.

In case you experience minor localized swelling, you can expect that to subside within 30 minutes of the procedure.

      • Can I get Botox, Dysport, or Jeuveau the same day as a facial?

You can get neurotoxin injections immediately after (but not before) a treatment such as a facial, microderm or dermaplane.

      • When will I see results?

Lines will start to soften within a week and you’ll see the full effect of your treatment within 2 weeks.

For this reason, we recommend coming in for your neurotoxin appointment at least 4 weeks prior to a big event. This timing accommodates the week+ needed to see your full results, plus two more weeks in case of a desired touch up.

Results can last 3 - 4 months but are impacted by a number of factors including the type of neurotoxin used, the amount injected, your personal metabolic rate, etc. Treatment every 3 – 4 months is recommended for optimal, consistent-looking results.

      • How much neurotoxin do I need?

Every patient is different, so the specific neurotoxin and the number of units used will be determined case-by-case with your provider. The number of units needed will also be impacted by the frequency of visits and whether or not prior treatment has completely worn off.

      • What other areas can be treated with neuromodulators?

Neuromodulators are the most popular injectable cosmetic procedure in the U.S. in part due to their versatility. In addition to the treatment areas listed above, they can be used to treat:

        • Gummy Smile (overexposure of the upper teeth and gums when smiling)
        • Platysma Bands (neck lines/bands)
        • Lip flip
        • Brow lift
        • Hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating in underarms or hands)
        • Masseters (Masseter muscles for jaw clenching)
      • Can I get injectable treatments while pregnant or breastfeeding?

We do not perform injections on patients who are pregnant.

Getting injections while breastfeeding is a personal decision that you may wish to discuss with your primary care doctor. There is no evidence that getting toxin/filler while breastfeeding, will lead to birth defects.  Retrospective review shows that there is no evidence that shows toxin/filler goes through the breast milk.
