      What is Sculptra?

We lose about 1% of our collagen every year and that can lead to a hollowed out or aged appearance. Sculptra is an injectable biostimulator made of poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA) that helps rebuild facial structure by stimulating the body's own natural collagen production. As new collagen forms, volume in the face is replaced and deeper wrinkles and folds soften as a result.

The most common areas of treatment with Sculptra are the cheeks, temples, in front of the ears, and around the chin. It can also be used to smooth deeper folds in the nasolabial region. Radiance Rx is a premier location to get Sculptra injections and service.  If you're looking to get a fresh, youthful appearance near Raleigh North Carolina, contact Radiance Rx today.

      What to expect

Before starting treatment, you’ll have a consultation with your provider during which you’ll discuss whether Sculptra is right for you, expectations around results, and the likely number of treatments and vials needed to achieve your optimal outcome. Most patients require 2 vials of Sculptra per session, with an average of 3 treatment sessions in total, each 6 - 8 weeks apart.

The day of treatment, your skin will be cleansed and prepared before injections begin. The procedure itself takes about 30-45 minutes, depending on the areas being treated and the number of vials being used. We mix Sculptra with lidocaine and therefore the procedure is very tolerable with mild discomfort.

Following completion of the procedure, the injection areas will be massaged for 5 minutes to ensure adequate distribution of Sculptra into the tissue, and patients are responsible for facial massage for 5 days following the procedure (for 5 minutes each time, 5 times per day). You’ll be able to resume most daily activities immediately after your appointment, but should keep in mind that you may experience some swelling or bruising.

Results are typically seen 8-12 weeks after injections and improve up to 3 months post-series.

      FAQs

      • Who's a good candidate for Sculptra?

We have found Sculptra to be an excellent option for runners and other athletes, and many others have had great benefit from it as well. Anyone experiencing volume loss throughout the full face, those with thin or lean faces, and patients with poor skin quality (crepey or sun damaged skin) are all good candidates for Sculptra. Ideal candidates need to commit to doing facial massage for 5 days following each treatment, and they should understand that results happen over time.

Come in for a consultation with one of our injectors to determine if Sculptra make sense for you. Call us at 919-303-4777 or request a consultation online.

      • What should I do to prepare for my Sculptra treatment?

Come to your appointment with a clean face.

Avoid alcohol for 3 days prior to your treatment to help reduce bruising. If possible, avoid blood thinners, aspirin, and NSAIDs (e.g. - Advil, Motrin, Aleve), vitamin E, and fish oils for one week prior. Be sure to consult with your prescribing physician before altering any prescription regimen.

Arnica or bromelain supplements can be used 2-3 days prior to your procedure to reduce the likelihood of bruising and swelling.

      • What should I do and expect post-treatment?

After each treatment, massage the areas of injection 5x/day for 5 mins each session, and continue for 5 days post procedure. This is to ensure the product stays evenly distributed for maximum results.

Mild discomfort, swelling, and/or bruising may be present and is expected with injections.

      • What's the downtime for Sculptra treatments?

Downtime for this treatment is minimal. However, if bruising occurs, it can take anywhere from 1-2 weeks to resolve depending on your body’s healing time.

      • Can I get Sculptra the same day as a facial?

Sculptra could be performed immediately after a facial as long as there are no open areas on the skin or inflammatory lesions such as active acne.

      • How much Sculptra do I need and how many treatments should I plan on?

The optimal number of Sculptra treatments and vials varies based on several factors and is unique to each patient. However, the average person usually requires a minimum of 3 treatments, with an average of 2 vials per treatment. It is important to schedule a consultation for proper assessment.

      • When will I see results?

The collagen stimulation process takes time, so Sculptra results aren’t typically seen until 8-12 weeks after injections. Results are cumulative with each subsequent treatment.

      • Can I get injectable treatments while pregnant or breastfeeding?

We do not perform injections on patients who are pregnant.

Sculptra has not been studied in women who are breastfeeding women. Getting this treatment while breastfeeding is a personal decision that you may wish to discuss with your primary care doctor.
